About Women on Wheels

Women on Wheels began inside a local bike shop and has since grown into an independent women’s cycling community based in Connecticut.

Our mission is to get all women on bikes—no matter your body type, goals, or budget. There’s a bike out there for you.

We host monthly events including group rides, skills clinics, Zoom sessions, social gatherings, weekend trips, a book club, and you’ll often find us at races.

Membership is free, and our group is led by volunteer ride leaders. We love partnering with local bike shops and believe in supporting our cycling community.

Inclusivity Statement:

WOW is committed to creating an inclusive environment. We welcome you just the way you are into our group. We empower ALL women to enjoy the freedom a bicycle has to offer.

Meet Hunter

Hunter (Ralston) Oworu is the founder of Women on Wheels. What began as a small group at Newington Bicycle evolved into the Trek Newington women’s team, and today has become one of Connecticut’s most established women’s cycling communities.

Hunter is a multisport athlete who does a bit of everything—triathlon, cyclocross, gravel and mountain biking—and is beginning to explore both youth coaching and race officiating.

Before bikes, she grew up riding horses and competed as a Division I equestrian athlete at the University of Tennessee at Martin. During her collegiate career, she earned numerous honors, including two-time Team MVP, Academic All-American, and All-American on the Flat. She was also awarded the prestigious Bettye Giles Female Athlete of the Year as a senior.

When she’s not on a bike, you can find Hunter cuddling her cat Ella, enjoying a coffee or IPA, laughing with her husband Oye, and soon, doting on their newborn son. Professionally, she works as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor and serves as the lead therapist at Aspire365.
